Millennium Triples

Millennium Triples Trophy - 13th July 2025

A total of 36 of us took to the green on Sunday 13th July for the Millennium Triples Trophy, making 12 teams of triples each of which were put together randomly. 36 was a good number of members signing up given that the Tony Alcock ( BE competition ) and a few other club and county competitions were being played earlier or later in the day.

Each team played three rounds of six ends, making for a total of 18 ends on a day that will be remembered as much for the heat as the bowls!!

With health alerts issued by the met office due to the extreme high temperatures, player welfare was a top priority. Because of this we introduced breaks after every six ends, allowing everyone time to rehydrate and cool down under the shade of our gazebos or in the cool of the clubhouse.

The usual buzz of laughter and lively chatter across the green was noticeably quieter, replaced instead by the gentle sound of instructions and results at each end as players wisely conserved their energy. Even so, the competition remained good-natured and keenly contested throughout.

The winners of the Millennium Trophy were Sally Lloyd, George Wilkins and Richard Reynolds - many congratulations to all of them. The trophy will be presented on Presentation Evening in November. The lucky winners of the pre game Spider this time were Sonja Austen and David Manwaring.

After the final ends players retired gratefully to the clubhouse, where they enjoyed a ham salad with new potatoes alongside welcome refreshments from the bar - a perfect way to end a memorable, if not sweltering, day of bowls.
