Closing Day

Closing Day 20th September

Our season came to a close on a day that began with fine weather but was interrupted by a couple of late showers. After what has otherwise been an exceptionally warm, sunny and successful season we can hardly complain!

Forty-two members signed up so once again we played triples and filled seven rinks to accommodate everyone. The atmosphere was one of camaraderie rather than competition - for some! - with many of us conscious that the season was drawing to a close and with an appreciation of the friendships that have grown over the summer.

The Spider was pure chaos, in the best way - 42 bowls of all colours sent hurtling at the same time towards the poor little spider sitting on a jack in the centre of the green. It was quite a spectacle! Congratulations to Victoria Rose and Richard Edwards who emerged as the lucky winners.  The match itself was won by Bev Laye, Mandy Vizer-Allen and John Cook who clearly saved their best until last with a score of plus 13.

Once the last bowl was bowled it was all hands on deck. Mats were lifted from the ditches, the solar fairy lights were gathered in, gazebo covers taken down and all the tables and chairs safely stored in the shed to protect them from the winter weather.

A hearty chilli with rice, kindly prepared by Lisa, awaited us indoors – the perfect finale. Once appetites were satisfied and glasses refreshed we held our AGM, formally bringing the season to its conclusion.

For some, the day didn’t end there. A number of members stayed on, enjoying an evening of music, drinks and camaraderie as the lights dimmed.

It’s always a little sad to say goodbye to the season, but we can look forward to our Presentation Dinner Dance in November, when we can all come together again to celebrate the fun, friendships, successes and happy memories of our 2025 bowls season.
